Day-by-Day Itinerary (Serengeti Focus)

Day 1: Zanzibar → Serengeti – Touchdown on the Plains

Fly from Zanzibar directly to a Serengeti airstrip matched to the season. Your guide meets you on the runway and the game drive begins immediately, there are no city transfers and no wasted hours. Depending on location, you might track cheetahs on short-grass plains, scan kopjes for lions, or cruise the riverine belts for elephants and hippos.

• Morning flight from Zanzibar to a Serengeti airstrip, Ndutu, Central, Western or Northern region by season
• Warm welcome and immediate game drive with your private Hazina Afrika guide
• Check in at your tented camp or lodge; lunch or high tea, timing varies with flight
• Afternoon and golden-hour drive for big cats and dramatic light
• Campfire, dinner, and overnight in the Serengeti

Day 2: Full Serengeti Day – Great Migration & Big Cats

Dawn finds you back on the move. If the Migration is within reach, you will work the herd edges where predators patrol. Watch dust plumes rise, hear the lowing of thousands of wildebeest, and, when you are in the north from July to October, stake out the Mara River for possible crossings. Outside peak months, the Serengeti still delivers with resident lions, leopards near river trees, and elephants in acacia country.

• Sunrise game drive; optional full day with picnic or split morning and afternoon drives
• Migration tracking where possible, south from December to March, west or central from April to June, north from July to October
• Predator focus, lions on kopjes, cheetahs on open plains, leopards along drainage lines
• Return to camp for dinner, stories by the fire and star-filled skies

Optional: Pre-book a sunrise hot air balloon safari, weather permitting, for aerial views of the plains, followed by a champagne bush breakfast.

Day 3: Serengeti → Zanzibar – One More Golden Hour

Fit in a last sunrise circuit for hyenas heading home, lions shifting territories, and giraffes etched against the dawn. After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Zanzibar. You typically arrive in the afternoon, in time for a beachside dinner.

• Flight back to Zanzibar, direct or via Arusha depending on schedule
• Arrive in Zanzibar and continue to your beach hotel

Great Migration: Where to Be & When

The Serengeti herds move in a broad clockwise pattern. We position your camp to match:

• Dec to Mar (South/Ndutu): Calving on short-grass plains; predators concentrate and cheetah viewing can be excellent.
• Apr to Jun (Central & Western): Herds push through the Western Corridor; river country, big cats, and scenic kopjes.
• Jul to Oct (North): Mara River crossings possible; intense predator prey encounters and classic dry-season light.
• Nov (Return South): Early rains pull herds back toward the short-grass; opportunistic predator activity.

Crossings are natural events and never guaranteed, but smart positioning and patient guiding improve your chances.

Flights & Logistics

You will fly from Zanzibar directly to a Serengeti airstrip when schedules allow, Ndutu, Central, Grumeti or Kogatende by season, or via Arusha with a short connection. Typical flying time is around 2 to 2.5 hours for non stops, connections add a brief stop. On arrival, your private guide meets you with a pop-top 4×4, with charging points and a fridge so you can head straight out.

Light aircraft luggage limits usually require soft bags, about 15 to 20 kg including hand luggage. We will confirm exact limits with your quote and arrange storage in Zanzibar if needed.
